Course overview
This course offers a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary introduction to the metaverse and AI-powered agents through the lenses of communication, culture, and applied linguistics.
Guided by Dr Tatiana Codreanu, you will explore how immersive virtual environments - and the intelligent agents within them - are transforming how we connect, learn, represent ourselves, and co-create meaning. Students will have access to the metaverse platform build by Unyted for Tesseract Academy.
Whether you're an educator, creative, researcher, or simply curious about the intersection of technology, language, and human experience, this course provides hands-on, thought-provoking insight into the emerging world of the metaverse and AI-powered communication and collaboration.
We use Discord for communication and to share learning materials throughout the course. Each session’s PowerPoint is uploaded one week in advance for students to review.
Each class is practical and hands-on and follows the following pattern:
- First hour: Discussion with the tutor on key concepts, along with reflective and critical thinking activities
- Second hour: Hands-on practice (guided by the tutor who provides support and feedback)
No prior technical experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Reading material or special equipment needed (if any)
We recommend bringing to class a laptop with a recent operating system, as the course includes hands-on work with AI tools and AI agents that are not fully supported on tablets or iPads.
Term dates
• Autumn Term: week beginning 13 October 2025 until week ending 19 December 2025
