Hinkley Point C: Value for money?

Energy Futures Lab hosts Michael Kell of the National Audit Office to present the main findings from their recent report on the Hinkley Point C deal.

Abstract

Michael will present the main findings from the recent NAO report on the government’s deal on behalf of energy consumers to build a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset. He will cover the case for new nuclear; the government’s approach to the Hinkley deal; the VfM case; risks to be managed by the government; and lessons for other infrastructure provision.

Biography

Michael has been Chief Economist at the National Audit Office since 2010. In the last two years he has led the NAO’s Value for Money work on energy. He is a visiting professor at the College of Europe, and lectures at the LSE and Oxford Blavatnik School of Government. He holds non-executive advisory roles with the Centre for Economic Performance at the LSE and  the Nuffield Centre for Social Investigation at Oxford. Previously, he was Director of Analysis in DCLG from 2002 to 2007, and has also worked as an economist at Deloitte, the International Monetary Fund, HM Treasury and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

The talk will be in Physics Lecture Theatre 1 in the Blackett Laboratory, the Department of Physics, Imperial College London, South Kensington, London SW7 2AZ.

This is building number 6 on the campus map. The quickest and easiest way there is to enter via the entrance on Prince Consort Road. The entrance for the lecture theatre is at the top of the stairs on your left hand side as you come into the building.
