Please join us for the first ethIC@Imperial event of the year. EthIC@Imperial is a series of lunchtime seminars organised by the Imperial College Science Communication Unit to facilitate critical discussion about ethical issues relating to academia. Past seminars have focused on research culture and the pressure to publish, bioethics, and Big Data. Our most recent meeting was on the ethics of big data, and included panelists from the Data Science Institute, the New Scientist, IBM and the Guardian newspaper.

The first event for 2017 is co-hosted with the Sowerby eHealth Forum at the Institute of Global Health Innovation. The event “Sharing Data, Shaping Views” will explore how medical data sharing policies might be effectively communicated to the public. A panel of experts on data sharing will open the session by presenting their views on the ideal data sharing communications approach. Audience members will then be invited to share their own views on the subject. This will be a unique opportunity for a highly engaged, interactive discussion between the academic and scientific community and policy makers from the Department of Health, NHS England, and NHS Digital.

Confirmed speakers include:
Professor David Hughes – Director of Information, NHS Digital
Dr. James Wilson- member of NHS Digital Data Access Advisory Group
Nicola Perrin – Wellcome Trust, Understanding Patient Data Initiative
Andrew Roddam- VP & Head Real World Evidence and Epidemiology, GSK
John Marsh- Patient and Public Representative

Lunch will be provided and there will be opportunity for networking.
This event is supported by the Science Communication Unit and The Peter Sowerby Foundation.
