During the last forty years the study of complex Monge-Ampère operators has played an important role in Kähler geometry. An important question in Kähler geometry is the problem of existence of uniqueness of special metrics. The existence problem for such metrics is very difficult. I am going to talk about how this problem reduces to study a complex Monge-Ampère equation and how Yau changed the mathematical landscape.
