About Marcin’s talk
Illegal insider trading is “rampant and “on the rise” said US attorney Preet Bharara, back in 2010. So who are these people carrying out illegal trades worth millions or even billions of dollars and how can law abiding traders spot them before it’s too late?
Marcin Kacperczyk is a Professor of Finance at the Imperial Business School who in recent years has been using US government data from over 500 criminal cases to show who these people are, what were they trading on, how information was transferred and what triggering their illegal activity. By crunching the data Marcin and his team searched for useful ‘red flags’ that should indicate when someone is insider trading.
Join him in the College Café at the Imperial Fringe: Criminal Investigations as he presents tips for identifying insider trading and discusses future work to look at what happens when these criminals are caught – do the punishments handed out affect their career and employability? And how does it impact the reputation and profitability of their employers?
Professor Kacperczyk’s talks will take place at 17:45, 18:15 and 18:45 – no specific registration is required to attend though you may wish to arrive at the cafe 5 – 10 minutes before your talk to ensure you get a seat.
