Summary

Water as a natural resource is a basic need for every person on the planet, however in many regions clean water supply is scarce.

This limited access to safe drinking water and water resources is a heavy burden on public health, food supply, education, economy and energy provision in many areas of the world.

Therefore, responsible and sustainable water management is essential to meet the growing demand for freshwater by 2050 as stated in the United Nations World Water Development Report.

As such, good management of water resources is key to prevent and limit the risk of hunger, poverty, poor health and death for millions of people across the globe.
