Abstract

Evidence on the health impacts of transportation investment has become a major area of research in recent years. Considerable evidence is mounting on general population and ways in which adult health may be associated with the environments where they live and work. Most research has been cross sectional – but some longitudinal work is emerging. Some studies have begun to look at distinctions and difference across age and income to help better understand how different demographic groups are impacted by community design. Other studies have begun to evaluate causality. This presentation will convey results from studies that are age specific where possible and to further identify any new evidence that is longitudinal and casual in nature. The presentation will include some discussion of attitudinal pre-disposition towards certain modes of travel and community design features.
