It explores the relationships between teaching, learning and assessment and introduces participants to standard ways of structuring and delivering teaching sessions. It examines the strengths and weaknesses, from the perspective of learning, of lectures and various types of small and large group teaching.

Staff who are mainly involved in teaching in clinical settings will probably find the Introduction to Teaching in Clinical Settings workshop more suitable for their needs. Staff who are interested in developing their feedback skills should attend the Introduction to Feedback and Formative Assessment workshop. If you are unsure about which workshop to attend, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The afternoon session of this workshop will focus primarily on applying strategies and techniques to participants’ own teaching contexts. It is therefore useful if workshop participants have a future teaching session or series of teaching sessions in mind to refer to during this activity. This could be a small group teaching session, seminar, large group teaching session or lecture.

NB Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Medicine has considerable overlap with Introduction to Teaching for Learning. We recommend only attending ONE of these. If you are unsure about which option is best for you please contact us. For further information and to book online, please see the workshop webpage.
