Social enterprises are businesses that trade on the open market to make money which is then reinvested into improving communities, improving the environment or tackling social problems. Divine chocolate, the Big Issue and The Co-Op are big examples.

This course presents facts about social enterprise ventures using case studies and group work. Groups will then consider some possibilities and use these to investigate how one could build a venture based on social values. These business models resonate well with researcher values in general and offer an alternative to traditional spin-outs. A guest speaker will share their experience.
