In 2015 the Department of Life Sciences will be running its Summer School providing practical experience of DNA manipulation and analysis which are fundamental aspects of the modern molecular bioscience revolution. The ‘hands-on’ laboratory skills which will be acquired complement the theoretical aspects of biology that school or college students cover during KS4 & KS5.

How to apply

Following an invitation to participate, each school should select 4 students (from any of the groups corresponding to Y10, Y11 &/or Y12) who would most benefit from attending the summer school. Either the Head of Science or the lead biologist should then complete the on-line registration form (which includes the member of staff’s contact details) – for organisational ease it is necessary that the school party attends together on the same day; booking is on a first come, first served basis with a limit of 32 students per day. Allowance for attendance on an alternative day, if available, may be necessary once each event becomes fully booked. A short waiting or reserve list of potential participants will be in operation if demand is high.

Requirements

The School must ensure the group attending are accompanied by an appropriate mentor. Apart from transportation to the South Kensington campus and a packed lunch there are no other requirements and there will be no charge to participants.
