The notion of parallel transport along curves in a Riemannian manifold gives rise to the very important
geometric concept of holonomy. In this talk we want to explain the basic facts about it and to describe some peculiar features of the geometries with special holonomy. Hopefully, we will also show one explicit example of complete non-compact Riemannian manifold with exceptional holonomy due to Bryant and Salamon.
