Abstract
UK Energy Policy; Full Steam ahead but to where?
Based on over 25 years in the UK energy industry Ian will take a look at the current state of UK energy policy and will not be able to help himself from being critical of what is happening, why it’s happening and the pace at which it is happening.
Biography
Ian Marchant was Chief Executive of SSE plc, a leading UK energy utility company, for over 10 years until stepping down in the summer of 2013. He is Chairman of Scotland’s 2020 Climate delivery group and Chairman for Wood Group, non-executive Chairman of Infinis Energy plc and non-executive director of Aggreko plc, Cyberhawk, Nova Innovation and Linknode. He is also President of the UK’s Energy Institute and Chairman of Maggie’s Cancer Charity.
Dennis Anderson Lecture Series
The Dennis Anderson Lecture series is the Energy Futures Lab’s flagship annual energy policy lecture. Dennis was Professor of Energy and Environment at Imperial College who set up ICEPT in 1998. Dennis combined engineering and economics, having worked as Chief Economist at Royal Dutch Shell and Senior Advisor at the World Bank where he played a major role in helping the Bank recognise the importance and value of the Environment. Shortly before his death in 2008 Dennis acted as Executive Advisor to the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change. The 2015 lecture is the 5th in the series. Previous speakers have included Lord Stern, Professor Rob Socolow and former Minister of State for Energy, John Hayes.
