About Bitcoin
Bitcoin was invented less than 6 years ago, and has remained beneath the public radar for much of that time. Most of the rising interest in bitcoin over the past two years has been due to its use as an alternative to traditional currencies, having reached a value over US$1,000 per bitcoin in December 2013.
It is the leading example of a technology built using a blockchain, an invention which provides a fundamentally new way of allowing multiple parties to trustlessly agree on a common ledger.
We believe that Bitcoin and other blockchain-based technologies have the capacity to disrupt whole industries and could revolutionise the way business is carried out across the world.
This event sees the launch of the cross-college academic Forum with talks from leaders in the Bitcoin world, as well as the launch of the student prize fund from Entrepreneur First, a leading London-based pre-seed investment programme.
Each term, Entrepreneur First will award £3,000 as a first prize to the leading bitcoin, blockchain or cryptocurrency project arising from student work.
