Abstract
Jamie Bartlett will explore dark internet subcultures, hidden encrypted websites and the people behind them. He will cover the rise of citizen-led encryption systems, the crypto-currency bitcoin, the anonymous browser ‘Tor’, online drugs markets, and how extremist groups and criminals use the internet. Bartlett will explain how this world operates, and what it means for public safety and security.
Biography
Jamie Bartlett is Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media at the think tank Demos, and author of ‘The Dark Net’, published by William Heinemann (August 2014). He is also the author of #intelligence, co-authored with Sir David Omand about the use of internet intelligence by the security services and the police.
