Abstract

The Web 2.0 and the Cloud in particular bring revolutionary tools for all investigators in applied research. The recent IPython notebook technology developed at Berkeley allows to create executable articles which combine text (with LaTeX markup) and code (written in Python, R, Octave, Scilab,..) executable through your web browser. Scientists may therefore release algorithms which may be tweaked by the reader/user and/or run on proprietary data.

The Zanadu platform (www.zanadu.io) provides a sensible framework to collaborate on notebooks in shared workspaces, comment and review notebooks then disseminate notebooks of interest in “Channels” over the www. Zanadu is also used for teaching and provides an integrated platform for coding projects and master internships for universities or even corporations. Zanadu is an ideal tool to develop the synergy between industry and academia.

Zanadu delivers the full benefit of the huge computing power of Microsoft Azure on a pay-as-you-go basis and is an awardee of the 1st Microsoft Azure for Research Award Program. Zanadu is currently in public beta in prestigious academic labs all over the world.
