Abstract

Imperial Festival 2014How did the solar system form? What are the origins of life on Earth? Are we alone in the universe? Join curator of meteorites at the Natural History Museum, Dr Caroline Smith and Imperial College Astrobiologist Dr Zita Martins to find out how meteorites can help to answer these fundamental questions.

Biographies

Dr Zita MartinsDr Zita Martins is a Royal Society Research Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences and Engineering at Imperial College, London. Her research involves analysing the organic components of meteorites.

Dr Caroline Smith is curator of meteorites at the Natural History Museum. She manages and cares for the nearly 2000 meteorites represented in NHM meteorite collection.  Dr Smith liaises with scientific and curatorial colleagues around the world to organise loans of material from our collection for scientific study and exhibition.  She also represents the Museum in various media and public outreach initiatives regarding meteorites and the scientific study of our Solar System.
