This is the fourth year of the annual Young Scientist Day, hosted by the Department of Medicine.

Young Scientist Day provides an ideal opportunity for research students and junior Post-Docs to showcase their work and gain experience in presentation and dissemination as well as providing a unique opportunity for networking.

All Research Degree students are expected to attend the event. Supervisors are also asked to attend to support their research degree students.

Poster presentations

Second and third year Research Degree students will be asked to present a poster (landscape, standard A1 size is preferred although other dimensions can be accommodated if posters have already been produced for another event). Please e-mail all posters, with your name and title of your poster to Hayley Kendall h.kendall@imperial.ac.uk by Wednesday 19th March 2014. Research students in their 1st year are asked to make a note of what’s expected in preparation for their 2nd year.

Posters should be displayed in the Wolfson Education Centre before 10.30am on the morning of Monday 24th March. There will be two judging periods, one from 10.30am – 12.00pm and one from 12.00pm – 1.30pm. Students will be required to stand by their poster to answer questions during their judging period.

Oral presentations – Research Degree students

Oral presentations are to take place from 2.00pm. This year oral presentations will embrace the Graduate School’s 3-Minute Thesis Competition. A student from each of the Department’s 20 Section Cohorts will give a 3-Minute presentation on their research according to the attached competition rules.

Section Cohort Reps need to ensure that the name of the selected student to do a 3 minute presentation is returned to Hayley Kendall by Wednesday 19th March 2014. Please contact Hayley if you need e-mail addresses for students in your cohort. Students who need information about which cohort they fit into can contact Hayley.

Oral presentations – Post Docs

Post Doc presentations will follow the above research degree students’ 3 minute thesis presentations. They will be arranged by the Department’s Early Career Committee.

There will be prizes for the best oral and poster presentations. The winning posters will be nominated for the Graduate School Annual Student Symposium in July 2014 and the winning 3 minute presentation will be put forward to the Graduate School competition on 11 June 2014.
