Science and art collide as Imperial’s researchers and student societies team up their talents with ArtsFest to show that good science and creativity go hand in hand.
Stimulate your senses with an evening of hands-on collaborations involving dancing, medicine, music and physics.
Just drop in! The Fringe is free for all from 17.00 -20.00 in the College Main Entrance. Activities include:
- Listen to beats provided by the Jazz & Rock Society and find out what kind of music sets your pulse racing with researchers from the Imperial Centre for Experimental and Translational Medicine.
- Get messy, and bring out the medical illustrator in you. Draw on your right or left brains, and use medical props to stretch your artistic side with LeoSoc.
- Marvel at the beauty in science and enjoy art inspired by surgery in our Art Exhibition. With images from the Faculty of Imaging and Light Microscopy.
- Tie yourself in knots as the Juggling Society and Professor Kevin Buzzard, Department of Mathematics, unveil the maths behind juggling.
- Get creative with Artifact, a collaboration between students at Imperial and the Royal College of Art.
- How do improvised and practiced music compare in our brains? Which do we prefer, and why? Join Professor Henrik Jensen, Department of Mathematics and the Imperial College String Ensemble in the College Café to find out. Three live performances at 18.30, 19.00 and 19.30. First come, first served
- Sometimes our ears deceive us. Listen to mysterious phantom sounds and try to create them yourself using a synthesizer. With Music Technology Society and Dr Tobias Reichenbach, Department of Bioengineering.
- From piccolo to tuba, what makes wind instruments work, and why do they differ in sound? Take a tuneful tour with Imperial College wind Band.
ArtsFest is a weeklong celebration of the arts, music, dance and everything in between that Imperial has to offer.
