ABSTRACT:
The local and global dynamics of holomorphic maps near fixed points with asymptotic irrational rotation has been extensively studied through various methods over the last decades. The problem involves delicate interplay between the Diophantine approximation of the irrational rotation, “small divisors”, and the distortion properties of holomorphic maps. In this talk we report on historical developments in the subject and discuss some recent breakthrough using renormalization techniques.
