Abstract:
A good research website can be a really useful tool for people both inside and outside the group. It can act as an archive for papers, a repository for software, a directory of people, an advertisement for students and sponsors, and an interactive CV. But it can only do this if it’s up to date, and the hard-coded web pages that academics have traditionally used make that a time-consuming chore. We have built a system in WordPress that has the advantages of a database (in that data is entered once and can be pulled into many different places on the site as appropriate) but is also open source and can be very easily customised. This talk will introduce the approach and demonstrate the websites both from the administration and display perspective.
