‘The Financial Sector After The Crisis’
What should happen to the Eurozone after the recent economic crisis? Plans for reform and recovery are being pushed through — but European economies are still embroiled in this complex and difficult scenario — and are still looking for a way out.
On Tuesday March 5th 2013, Imperial College Business School is delighted to host Ignazio Visco, Governor of the Bank of Italy, for an Imperial Business Insights lecture on ‘The Financial Sector After the Crisis’. Mr Visco will analyse what has gone wrong in the financial sector in the last two decades and suggest some lessons learnt during the recent crisis.
He will focus in particular on the fundamental non-stationarity of economic developments. The crisis has heightened appreciation of the benefits of a more stringent regulatory and supervisory regime, enabling finance to play its fundamental role in the functioning of the economy. Mr Visco will discuss areas where progress was made – as well as those where further efforts should be expected.
Mr Visco was appointed Governor of the Bank of Italy on 24 October 2011. Previously, he was Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy, Chairman of the International Relations Committee at the ESCB and Chief Economist and Head of the Economics Department of the OECD.
