Speakers include:

  • Tom Knight, Founder of Ginkgo Bioworks, ‘Father of Synthetic Biology’
  • Claes Gustafsson, Founder & Chief Commercial Officer, DNA 2.0
  • Jim Haseloff, Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge
  • Phil Holliger, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge

Synthetic Biology has obvious implications for the next generation of biotechnologies, with applications across medicine, energy, manufacturing and agriculture. Recognition of Synthetic Biology’s importance to the UK economy has gained new momentum with the announcement of £6.5 million funding for feasibility studies by the Technology Strategy Board to enable the UK to realise a substantial portion of the global Synthetic Biology industry, projected to reach $10bn by 2016. The Cambridge BioDesign TechEvent will provide opportunities to find out what both academic and industrial leaders of the field are thinking, to discuss novel applications of Synthetic Biology and to develop partnerships across academia and industry.

Accommodation is available at Downing College for Monday 24th September ahead of an early start on Tuesday.
