Joanna Shields, CEO of Tech City Investment Organisation on entrepreneurship and its importance in the economic growth of the UK.
Joanna Shields is the new CEO of Tech City Investment Organisation, a role she has taken on recently by Government appointment. Prior to this, she was Vice President and Managing Director, Facebook EMEA, where she developed strategic partnerships and built the company’s revenue across the region. With 955 million users, Facebook is one of the greatest 21st century internet success stories – it has redefined marketing and transformed how businesses and consumers interact; and its plans for the future are being watched worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to hear Joanna discuss her experiences at Tech City and Facebook, and her new role as the Government’s Business Ambassador for the Digital Industries.
Before joining Facebook in 2010, Joanna was AOL Executive Vice President and President of People Networks at AOL, responsible for extending the global reach of its social networks and fully integrating community and social media platforms, with a combined reach of about 80m users worldwide.
Prior to this, Joanna was President of Bebo and Managing Director for Google Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa. With more than 20 years’ experience in management roles for leading technology and internet companies, Joanna is a digital media visionary.
