ORN

The Olympic Route Network (ORN) will enable athletes and VIPs to arrive promptly at their events by improving traffic flow on these routes. Maps showing the impact of Olympic activities on the London road network can be seen on the TfL website. Roads that form part of the ORN will have a reduced number of pedestrian crossings, restrictions for vehicles wishing to make right turns and, in some cases, lanes that will be used by Olympic vehicles only. The ORN is likely to cause considerable disruption not only to vehicular traffic but also to pedestrians and cyclists trying to use roads that are part of the ORN or connecting routes. Almost all of Imperial’s campuses will be affected as the ORN includes A4 Talgarth & Cromwell Road, A40 Westway and Park Lane.  More information on the ORN is available here or visit the Olympic travel advice website to plan your journeys.

Tube

Disruptions to tube services will occur on Tuesday 10 July, when simulated queuing and passenger diversions will be in place at London Bridge, Cannon Street, Charing Cross and Victoria on Tuesday. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys as usual, but should be aware that they may experience delays. More information can be found here.

Throughout the Olympics, the tube network is expected to experience unprecedented demand with certain areas encountering severe delays (1-2 hours) for prolonged periods. The volleyball at Earl’s Court will cause the greatest disruption to Imperial and the District and Piccadilly lines through Earl’s Court are expected to be particularly congested throughout the Olympic fortnight. Hyde Park Corner will be exit only between 10.00 and 22.00. For further details, see the Get Ahead of the Games website
