JPR Williams Rugby Varsity Match
Varsity 2011 on Wednesday 16 March is set to be the biggest yet with the day finishing at a brand new venue, the Twickenham Stoop Stadium, home to Harlequins RFC.
This annual battle between Imperial College and Imperial Medicals is spread across four venues in London and sees 50 teams compete in 25 matches in 10 sports from rugby to water polo. The day finishes with ICU RFC 1st XV going head to head with ICSM RFC 1st XU in the JPR Williams Cup at The Stoop Stadium, Twickenham.
In addition to the Stoop, the three main sites for the day are Harlington Sports Ground, Wilson House and Ethos. Harlington will play host to rugby, football, lacrosse and hockey matches, which spectators require tickets to view, with matches starting at 10.30. After the Harlington results are announced, the crowds will be transported over to the Stoop in Twickenham for the grand finale. Wilson House in Paddington will play host to badminton and the yearly mix of netball, basketball, squash and water polo will be held at Ethos.
Unfortunately Ethos and Wilson House lack viewing areas and so matches held there are not open to spectators.
The JPR Williams Varsity Match (kick-off at 19.30), is named after St Mary’s old boy, John Peter Rhys Williams, a former Wales full back and is the largest spectator event in Imperials sports calendar. Set up in 2003 the event has grown in popularity each year with over 1200 spectators attending the evening game.
£12 buys access to all the matches including the JPR Williams game, as well as transport to and from South Kensington/Hammersmith to Harlington and then on to Twickenham. £10 tickets online will get you access to the evening JPR Williams game at Twickenham whereas tickets on the gate for the evening game will be £12.
