Abstract
In this study, the authors investigate the extent to which dispositional hope mediates genetic influences on leadership. The authors use two proxies of leadership – leadership role occupancy and transformational leadership – to examine this mediating relationship. The relationship was examined by using a sample of female twins (214 identical and 178 fraternal) from the Minnesota Twin Registry. Results indicated that 53% of the variance in hope and 49% of the variance in transformational leadership was associated with heritability. Furthermore, the results indicated that the genetic influence on leadership role occupancy and transformational leadership was mediated by hope with the overlapping heritability estimate of 38.5% and 36 % respectively.
