Professor David Archer, School of Biology, University of Nottingham presents this lecture on: “Protein secretion stress in fungi.”
Abstract: Protein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum is a key step in the secretion of proteins from eukaryotes. The accumulation of unfolded proteins leads to the unfolded protein response (UPR) which has common features across eukaryotes. The UPR has an impact in biotechnological applications of fungi for production of secreted proteins and also in the natural lifestyles of fungi including the virulence of fungi such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. The UPR will be described in the context of the biology and applications of both yeasts and filamentous fungi.
