Engineers Without Borders are pleased to welcome back Martin McCann, CEO of RedR to speak about the charities work and how you can get in to the field.
Martin McCann is amongst the most experienced and qualified people in development and disaster relief in the world.
RedR are a disaster relief organisation that recruits highly skilled individuals from Engineering, Security and Health to work in areas affected by natural disasters and conflict. They have deployed individuals in almost all recent disasters, notably the Rwandan Genocide, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka following the Tsunami in 2004. RedR is an extremely well respected and influential organisation and it is a great privilege for Martin McCann to come and talk to Imperial.
Biography: Martin McCann has been Chief Executive of RedR since 15 January 2007. Martin has been involved in international development for the last 30 years ranging from a two year volunteer posting in West Africa to most recently being the Programme Director and Deputy International Executive Director of Plan International responsible for program quality across 43 country operations in a half billion dollar a year organization. Martin also worked at ITDG (now Practical Action) where he designed the restructuring and systems to help make it financially viable again. Martin is a Trustee of both War Child UK and People in Aid and was the founding Chair of the Hope for African Children Initiative (a multi NGO coalition on the impact of HIV/AIDS on children in Africa).
