Please note, this event is for Friends members and their guests only.

Imperial College has established an Institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology, with the aim of bringing together the extensive, world leading systems biology research from across Imperial College, from the Faculties of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Engineering. At this exclusive event, Chair of the Institute, Professor Richard Kitney OBE FREng, will welcome Friends members and their guests, along with Professor Paul Freemont of Imperial College and Nikolas Rose of LSE, and give attendees an access all areas overview of the work of the Institute. This will be followed by drinks and nibbles, with plenty of time to mingle with staff from the Institute.

Systems Biology is a rapidly evolving discipline that seeks to determine how complex biological systems function by integrating empirical information through mathematical and computing solutions. Through an iterative process of experimentation and modelling, systems biology aims to understand how individual components interact to govern the functioning of the system as a whole. Synthetic Biology can be defined as the design and re-design of biological parts, devices and systems with applications ranging from materials with enhanced properties and biofuels.
