This Public Exhibition is to be held by Imperial College London to present proposals for a new building at the corner of Exhibition Road and Imperial College Road, proposed as part of the redevelopment of the South East Quadrant within the College’s South Kensington campus.
The South East Quadrant project involves the staged comprehensive redevelopment of the South East Quadrant by 2016, culminating in the construction of the new Exhibition Road Building at the junction of Exhibition Road and Imperial College Road. The new building forms a key part of this strategy and is essential in enabling the continuation of the College’s ground-breaking research and teaching in the fields of engineering, science and technology, for which it is world-renowned.
The building has been developed in conjunction with specialists from within the College’s Department of Engineering to be an exemplar of sustainability, whilst responding to the local characteristics of the area to enhance the street scene of this part of Exhibition Road.
The proposals have advanced following consultation with City of Westminster, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Greater London Authority, English Heritage, CABE and the Knightsbridge Association. The College would now like to seek the views of nearby residents and owners to present the final design of the scheme, which will be the subject of a planning application to be submitted shortly.
The exhibition is intended to provide the public with the opportunity to find out more about the proposed development and to provide feedback to the project team on the scheme. Comments received will be reviewed by the design team in developing the final proposals.
The exhibition boards will be on display from 11.00 am and the team will be available to answer questions from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Refreshments will also be available from 4.00 pm.
