Today, more than ever before, the corporate sector is facing the litmus test of whether a company is truly great, simply good or neither. In the last decade, innovation has become a very fashionable term. However, only a limited number of companies have walked the talk. As the global economic scenario evolves, attempts at innovation in product, process and business models are becoming pervasive.
In 2006, a first generation start-up broke into Businessweek’s list of ‘The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies’, ranking 32nd. This year, it ranked 26th. The company was Infosys Technologies Limited, a multinational information technology services company, headquartered in Bangalore. One of India’s most respected companies and the second largest Indian IT company, Infosys, today, has over 103,000 employees. It has nine development centres and more than 50 offices worldwide. Annual revenues for the fiscal year 2007-2008 exceeded US$4 billion with a market capitalization of over US$30 billion. Recently, Infosys announced that it anticipated US$1 billion of revenue from India’s domestic market alone in 2009.
What has been core to success in a company where 46% of revenues come from services that did not exist five years ago?
To share his perspective on ‘Innovating in Turbulent Times’, the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is delighted to host Vishwanath (Vish) Madhugiri, General Manager and Head of Global Research Alliances, Infosys Technologies Limited. Vish represents SETLabs, the research and innovation arm of Infosys. He is responsible for creating strategic partnerships for Infosys, with the aim of keeping Infosys at the cutting-edge of contemporary technology, creating a positive differentiation for their customers. He also drives non-linear growth strategies for Infosys, and manages the research ecosystem.
