The Eco Cities of China – Can They Teach Us a Lesson?
Peter Head, OBE FREng, Director of Arup, Commissioner, London Sustainable Development Commission, Imperial Alumnus.
Featured on the cover of Time magazine in October, Peter Head is one of the world’s leading proponents of sustainable urban development. This year, for the first time in history, more people will be living in cities than in rural areas. Cities provide paths out of poverty but are energy hungry and wasteful. “Few people see the problem more clearly” says Time of Peter. He leads a team to build an eco-city in Dongtan, a farming area near Shanghai almost as large as Manhattan. What can we learn? How can we transfer the knowledge? What is the implication for London and other cities?
Wine will be served after the lecture. Join the Friends’ table at Ognisko Restaurant, Exhibition Road after the event.
