Professor Mark Sephton, Head of the Department of Earth Science and Engineering, is delighted to invite alumni, students and staff to an online event in honour of Professor John S Archer, former Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Dean of the Royal School of Mines, on Wednesday 10 February between 17.30-18.30.

The John S Archer Fund was established 10 years ago by a group of Professor Archer’s former PhD students, and is awarded annually to a PhD student in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering who has demonstrated excellence in their studies

The Department of Earth Science and Engineering Postgraduate Prizes will be announced during this online event.

The John S Archer Award was established 10 years ago by a group of Professor Archer’s former PhD students, and is awarded annually to a PhD student in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering who has demonstrated excellence in their studies.

The Janet Watson Memorial Prize rewards a PhD student for research excellence and good citizenship in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering. Professor Janet Watson was a British geologist and alumnus of Imperial College London.

This year we will be holding an online event for alumni, friends, staff and students of the department to celebrate John’s legacy and to present the postgraduate prizes.
