The UK Science & Innovation Network of the British Embassy Berlin and Wissenschaft kontrovers, a project of Wissenschaft im Dialog (‘Science in Dialogue’), invite you to a joint discussion event within the framework of the Science Week Berlin, on the topic “Sustainable Energy – Does The Future Lie in National Autonomy or International Exchange?” on 9th of November 2021 at 5PM.
One of the pressing science-policy questions of our time is the search for sustainable, future-oriented and reliable energy supply. In order to protect the climate, fossil fuels will have to be replaced by renewable energy sources such as wind or hydrogen power. But a number of questions remain: will energy autonomy or a better interconnection of energy resources and production offer the best way forward? Which energy sources will be able to meet our growing demand? Is this dependent on geographic situation? Which new technologies will be accepted by the public?
For an interactive discussion, we have invited experts from various disciplines from the UK and Germany, such as Dr. Sandra Esteves of the University of South Wales and Dr. Malte Jansen of Imperial College London, to discuss these multifaceted issues. In the style of a debate in the House of Commons the audience will have the opportunity to express their opinions by choosing different seats and thus signalling support for different solutions.
The event will take place at the British Embassy in Berlin. In order to comply with all Covid-19 related health and safety regulations, please register in advance. The event will also be streamed live. The event will be held in English, with real-time interpretation into German provided on the livestream. For livestream viewers voting will be done online. The event is part of Wissenschaft kontrovers, an event series organised by Wissenschaft im Dialog as part of the Wissenschaftsjahr 2020|21 – Bioeconomy. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
