Please do join us for the next segment in the compelling Sargent Centre Seminar Series on Thursday 9th June, where we are delighted to welcome Dr Michael Sokolov, co-founder and COO of DataHow AG, a spin-off company from ETH Zurich.

The seminar, followed by a Q&A, will be taking place from 3-4pm in ACEX 250 Lecture Theatre 1, with the option to join via Microsoft Teams using the link below. This will then be followed by refreshments and the opportunity to network with Dr Sokolov and colleagues.

 Abstract

Quality by Design (QbD) guided process development is time & cost effective only if knowledge is transferred from one scale to the other (vertical knowledge transfer) one project to the next (horizontal knowledge transfer). Today knowledge is transferred across scales and molecules when assessing the technical risks. However, this form of knowledge transfer is limited and despite the wide spread of platform processes, to some degree the process needs to be developed de novo for every new drug or vaccine candidate. This leaves a huge potential to accelerate process development.

In this presentation DataHow will show how advanced machine-learning and hybrid modeling approaches can be exploited to transfer knowledge between scales, unit operations and molecules. All presentations will be centered on industrial implementation examples.

In particular, DataHow will present a novel approach to embed knowledge about process similaries into the model generation so to support decisions about optimal process design for a new process in development. Additionally, DataHow will highlight the central role of advanced modeling methods to transfer knowledge and mitigate risks across unit operations. Finally, DataHow will showcase the added value of those approaches for Raman spectra calibration in upstream process development, concluding that such analytical method development for a component of interest could be more efficient and multiple times faster.

DataHow is a software provider with a particular focus on predictive model-based solutions for the biopharmaceutical industry. The company was spinned out from ETH Zurich in 2017 and has 43 employees.

About the speaker – Dr Michael Sokolov

Dr. Michael Sokolov is co-founder and COO of DataHow AG, a spin-off company from ETH Zurich specialized on process data analytics and modeling with a particular focus on the biopharmaceutical and chemical domains. His main activities are centered on managing data analytics and software projects with global pharma accounts as well as coordinating all operational and financial activities of DataHow. He also holds a lecturer position for statistics for chemical engineers at ETH.
