Summary
Sir Ernst Chain Lecture
The Sir Ernst Chain Lecture is an annual event held by the Imperial Department of Life Sciences. The lecture commemorates the achievements of Sir Ernst Chain, both for humankind and for the establishment of the Biochemistry Department, a predecessor of the current Department of Life Sciences. This year we have chosen an ecological and evolutionary theme to mark the 75th anniversary of the acquisition of Silwood Park, Imperial’s key campus for these disciplines.
Speaker: Professor Hopi Hoekstra, Harvard University
Hopi E. Hoekstra is an integrative biologist. Her work brings an evolutionary perspective to the fields of genetics, development, and neuroscience to understand how and why organisms have evolved variation in morphology and behavior in nature. She is a Harvard College Professor, the Curator of Mammals at the Museum of Comparative Zoology and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She has won numerous honors and awards, the Richard Lounsbery Medal from the National Academy of Sciences, and the Thomas Lowell Award from The Explorer’s Club. She also serves on several scientific advisory and editorial boards, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
Silwood Park 75th Anniversary
Silwood Park celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. We are celebrating this milestone with specially curated exhibition, exploring the rich and diverse story of Silwood at the College and showcasing the wide variety of activities taking place today, as well as looking ahead at what the future might hold.
The event will begin with the lecture and will be followed by a private view of the exhibition, with drinks and canapés.
