Title: Du Val singularities
Speaker: Inés García-Redondo
Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce Du Val singularities, a well-known type of isolated singularities of the complex plane that can be fully classified in correspondence with the simply laced Dynkin diagrams of types A, D and E (A-D-E classification). To obtain such classification one must study their resolutions i.e., take successive blow-ups of the singularity until arriving to a smooth variety. The idea for the talk is to cover how this is done through several examples and to later study some of the nice properties these singularities enjoy.
Some snacks will be provided before and after the talk.
