Countdown to COP30 : Strengthening Climate Action in an Era of Global Instability
Co-hosted by the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment and the Delegation of the European Union to the UK
In a world grappling with rising geopolitical tensions, trade disputes and regional conflicts, the climate crisis continues to unfold as a compounding threat—deepening vulnerabilities, straining resources and amplifying the risks already faced by communities and nations.
Against this backdrop, the upcoming COP30 in Belem this November provides a crucial opportunity to revitalise momentum in the international climate agenda and deliver on the Paris Agreement. It offers a chance to bridge divides, foster collaboration to deliver real world climate action and reaffirm the global commitment to securing a safer, more resilient and equitable future.
Taking place midway between COP29 and COP30, this event will bring together political leaders, policy experts and scientists to discuss how global leaders can rise to the moment. Discussions will explore what steps are needed across sectors to deliver on science-based targets and what key issues need to be addressed in Belem to unlock action to limit global temperature rise and to address the impacts of a changing climate.
The event will feature a panel debate followed by a networking reception, providing an opportunity for further discussions on climate action.
Please note the event has been extended from 4:00PM until 7:00PM. Talks are from 4:30PM until 6:15PM, followed by a drinks reception.
