On Monday 21st July 2025 we will be welcoming Associate Professor Giovanni Ligresti, University of Boston,  to the Vascular Science Seminar Series.

Details as follows:

Date: Monday 21st July 2025

Time: 1pm – 2pm UK time

Talk title: Contribution of vascular aging to lung repair and fibrosis

Hosted by Professor Anna Randi

Location: Room 427/428, 4th Floor ICTEM Building Hammersmith Campus and online (MS Teams)

Short Bio:

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Boston University. My research focuses on lung injury, repair and fibrosis and I have studied several pathological mechanisms driving pulmonary fibrosis including vessel remodeling and myofibroblast differentiation. Currently, my laboratory focuses on understanding how aging-associated epigenetic mechanisms driving persistent fibrogenesis in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Short talk description:

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal disease of the lung associated with aging. Although IPF is characterized by several vascular abnormalities, the contribution of the pulmonary vasculature to the pathogenesis of IPF remains poorly understood. Our laboratory employs multi-omics, genetic and lineage tracing approaches to investigate how aging-associated vascular dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis of IPF. Our ultimate goal is to identify key targetable mechanisms driving IPF progression toward our long-term goal of blocking or reversing this lung condition.

A Vascular Science Seminar series site on MS Teams has been created for you to sign up to and join to be able to attend the seminar if you are joining online. To do so please click this link  which will request access to the Team site and Seminar if you are not already a member.

Please do this ahead of the seminar talk.
