Effective networking for university careers (and beyond)
The Academic Women Association (AWA), in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and Cancer, warmly invites you to our next in-person event on Friday 4th July, held at the new LMS building on the Hammersmith Hospital Campus.
- What: Workshop and refreshments
- When: Friday 4th July, 14:00 – 17:00
- Where: 7th Floor Seminar Room, LMS building, Hammersmith Campus, W12 0HS
This interactive session is designed to help you to develop the knowledge and skills to build relationships that deliver for your career. The model for this course is that your networking has to suit the way you work and live, so we’ll focus on building relationships that build to positive personal and career outcomes, not how to shake people’s hands in a coffee break and hope that improves our careers.
The course will be delivered in an interactive and participatory style, combining discussion, reflection and activity-based approaches.
After this course you will:
- Have a plan for networking activities that suit your career and personality
- Understand your existing networks and their strengths
- Be able to use your networking time in a focussed way
ABOUT THE TRAINER:
Dr Steve Cross is an award-winning science communicator and comedian. He’s the founder of Bright Club, the international network of academic comedy events and Science Showoff. As a freelancer he gets work entirely through his network, and for the last ten years he’s been teaching university staff to network better. This means he’s been stealing networking ideas for ten years ready to share with you.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the workshop. It is open to all students and staff in the College. Access will be provided to the building by registration only. Spaces are limited. The event will not be screened or recorded to achieve an atmosphere of safety and trust.
If you have any questions, please contact the event organisers.
