Building a deep tech company 101: Demystifying the journey from academic proof-of-concept to seed-stage commercial venture

Are you an Imperial researcher interested in ways to build a Deep Tech spinout or startup?

Join Undaunted and Prosemino to demystify the journey from academic proof-of-concept to seed-stage commercial venture, the second workshop in a new series designed to equip academic researchers with the tools to take their first steps into climate entrepreneurship.

Who should attend?

The series is open to all Imperial researchers, from PhD students to senior academics. No prior experience in entrepreneurship necessary. Climate solutions can emerge from a broad spectrum of academic disciplines, from chemistry and computing to mathematics and materials – you may be surprised to learn how your research can play its part!

Workshop 2: Building a Deep Tech Company 101

Thursday 4 September | 2-4pm | Imperial South Kensington campus (room TBC) & Online

Keynote: lessons from a startup that builds startups: Prosemino is the first ClimateTech venture builder with its own technology development labs. Its Director of Venture Building, Gyen Ming Angel, will share ‘lessons from a startup that builds startups’ – from how to identify true product-market fit to portfolio case-studies in advanced materials and electrochemistry.

  • Gain insight into how common deep tech commercialisation challenges can be de-risked, brought to life by lessons learned from the portfolio of ventures being spun out of the Prosemino labs in Canada Water.

Q&A panel: Hear from early-stage Deep Tech founders transforming their sectors from green hydrogen to biomanufacturing – and VCs seeking to invest in the next climate tech innovations.

Workshop: Make a start on your own Deep Tech business plan and put the theory into practice! Translate your own lab research into a commercial solution to a real-world customer problem. Perform a market deep-dive. Learn how to pull it all together into the perfect pitch.

Spaces for in-person workshop attendees are limited. The keynote talk and Q&A panel will also be broadcast online via Microsoft Teams.
