As part of their Technical Presentation skills module, our second-year undergraduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering are giving technical presentations to explain a technical topic they’re interested in – we’d like to invite year 12 and 13 groups for a unique opportunity to be their audience to experience what it’s like being a student studying engineering here at Imperial.
In the 90-minute session, students will hear 5 to 6 short talks on a wide range of technical topics with the chance to ask questions. There are 12 sessions to choose from running for six weeks during October to December on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.
• Tuesdays 16.00-17.30 from 28 October to 2 December 2025
• Thursdays 10.00-11.30 from 30 October to 4 December 2025
Here are a just few examples of the type of topics that have been covered in previous years:
-
Can a closed room be cooled using a refrigerator?
-
Where to build your space hotel
-
The science behind hitting a six
-
Why do we use water to fight fires?
Attendees will arrive at the main entrance, be split into three groups and be taken to a presentation room by a PhD student to start promptly. The groups will listen to all the technical presentations and Q&A in the assigned room, before being taken back to main entrance at the end.
This is a great opportunity to see what undergraduate students at Imperial do, get a feel for engineering and visit our South Kensington Campus. Please note that only available sessions will show on the booking form.
