A perspective projection of a dodecahedral tessellation in H3. Four dodecahedra meet at each edge, and eight meet at each vertex, like the cubes of a cubic tessellation in E3.

Title: Schemes and Sheaf Cohomology

Speaker: Patrick Luo

Abstract: This talk will introduce schemes and sheaf cohomology. Schemes are the start of modern algebraic geometry, allowing us to consider more spaces than just varieties, and over arbitrary fields and rings, and sheaf cohomology is a powerful tool for understanding the behaviour of sheaves on these schemes, and providing information about subvarieties through ideal sheaves. If time permits, I’ll try to provide a link between sheaves and cohomology on a variety thought of as a scheme and as a complex manifold.

Some snacks will be provided before and after the talk.
