Prof. Ana Ferreira is Professor of Seismology at UCL with over 20 years of experience on the development of seismic methods to image earthquake sources and Earth’s interior, and on big seismic data analyses.
In this seminar Prof Ferreira will present her ongoing UPFLOW 3-D mantle models, which show complex 3-D structures from the upper mantle to the lowermost mantle with possible lateral links between low velocity anomalies beneath the Canary, Madeira and Azores Islands. She will discuss possible geodynamical implications of these findings.
Looking forward, large-scale experiments like UPFLOW, RHUM-RUM and the PacificArray show that OBS
technology and data quality are now mature enough to support an ocean-wide AtlanticArray OBS community experiment (AtlanticArray).
