EDI Training Workshop Outline
- Understand the Legal Framework
• Identify the key elements of UK equality and anti-discrimination legislation, including protected
characteristics.
• Recognise their responsibilities under the law as students, colleagues, and researchers.
• Understand the potential consequences (legal and institutional) of non-compliance. - Recognize Why EDI Matters in Research and Academia
• Explain the benefits of diversity and inclusion for scientific innovation, collaboration, and
problem-solving.
• Articulate the impact of exclusionary practices or bias on individuals, research quality, and
departmental culture.
• Connect EDI principles to values of academic integrity, fairness, and excellence. - Identify and Model Good Practice
• Demonstrate awareness of inclusive behaviours in lab, seminar, and collaborative research
environments.
• Recognise examples of good practice in recruitment, supervision, authorship, and group dynamics.
• Develop strategies to challenge bias, microaggressions, or exclusionary behaviour constructively and
