Attitudes toward routine and pandemic vaccination: implications for disease dynamics
This talk introduces a new three-dimensional conceptual framework for understanding people’s attitudes toward vaccines—naturalist vs. technologist, minimalist vs. maximalist, and doubter vs. believer. Using nationally representative U.S. survey data, I show how these orientations are associated with influenza vaccine confidence, hesitancy, and uptake. I then extend the framework to pandemic vaccination, presenting preliminary modeling of how heterogeneous decision-making preferences shape vaccination dynamics and epidemic outcomes.
