We are hosting our next Early Academic Talks session this month on Thursday 27th November. This is a great opportunity for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to network and learn about the research at Imperial in a friendly and informal environment.

During the session, Parisa Jamadi and Ashley Bell will each give a 10-minute talk on their research.

Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Enriching Academic Feedback for ReportsAssessing student lab reports is time-consuming and often varies between markers. This project introduces a GenAI-driven assistant that supports assessors by analysing reports against rubric criteria and retrieving relevant concepts from course materials. The system highlights key strengths, identifies missing or unclear ideas, and generates structured draft feedback for human review.

Unravelling the Connection Between the Gut and Metabolism in Children with Autism

There is growing interest in how the gut, body, and brain interact in autism spectrum disorders. Comparison of metabolic and gut microbiome profiles between children with autism and their typically developing siblings reveals distinct differences in gut bacterial composition and metabolism that may influence brain function and behaviour. Understanding these differences would inform future approaches to support individuals with autism through dietary, microbiome-based, or metabolic interventions.
