Title: Fast Ignition Re-ignited

Abstract: Following the successes on NIF, the search is on to develop a direct drive configuration suitable for a commercial IFE reactor. Some form of advanced ignition, separating the compression and heating stages, remains highly desirable if the attendant problems can be solved. I explore the possibility that the divergence and stopping distance difficulties associated with hot-electron Fast Ignition may possibly be overcome by injecting the hot electrons into a magneto-electric bottle where they are confined until they collisionally deposit their energy in the dense core.
