The Department of Physics has a vibrant taught graduate portfolio offering MSc and MRes programmes spanning a wide range of topics. Approximately 200 master’s students join us each year from around the world, with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, engineering and the other physical sciences.

Through a combination of lectures, practical laboratories and individual research projects, students are bought to the cutting edge of research. Specialisms include cosmology, physics of light and materials, to the physics of the quantum realm, and down to the tiniest scales of particle physics. Our programmes span all the way from blue skies research areas through to those with very direct application in industry, computing and the resilience of society.
