Abstract:

The construction industry is rightly asking itself what good design looks like in the current climate crisis. How should we design buildings for the future? What factors should we prioritise when we conceive structures and what materials should we use?
Roger will address these questions and describe the work of the Structural team at Foster and Partners.

Roger Ridsdill Smith is a Structural Engineer, Senior Partner and Head of Structural Engineering at Foster + Partners. After graduating from Cambridge University, Roger started work in Paris, before moving to Arup in London where he became a Director in 2003.
The structural team at Foster and Partners currently numbers around 50. Recently completed projects include the JP Morgan Headquarters tower in New York and the Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh. The team is working on projects around the world including the new Transport interchange in Warsaw, a laboratory building in Oxford, the Oracle headquarters in Nashville and an entire city block in Seoul.
